Allier deux passions

I tried a new experiment yesterday and that is cyanotype print on fabric. I had no idea how it would turn out, but in the end I am very VERY happy of the results ! This is really inspiring, I want to try so many things now ! It really brings together my two passions ! I don’t know how they would resist to washing or if I can change the colour without dying the entire fabric etc. But as they are test pieces I will see what can be done.

Experimentation Sunday

So yesterday I tried something Callixte has been doing for years which is cyanotype, it was really fun and unexpected. I will do some more soon ! Here is a test for you to see. I might experiment a bit more with it tonight, in order to change the colour.

An unformal translation would give :

“Fabric is our overlay and ornament. When made by our hands, it keeps the scent of our thoughts”

Object(if)

My friend, Camille Le Doze, a ceramicist, called me last week asking me if I could take a few photographs of her pieces before they get sold. I never really did still life but I thought why not give it a go… So we spent yesterday afternoon trying to capture the essence of her creations. The real challenge was to avoid reflection in the objects as their beautiful enamels can sometimes act like a mirror.
Here is one of the picture :

If you would like to see more of Camille’s work and you are looking for Christmas shopping ideas, she will be exhibiting this weekend with many more artists at Saint Mandé, you can find more details below :

Our collaboration with Antoine Leven has been published !

You can check out Plateform special edition magazine there !

And a picture from the series…

On an another note, I am currently working on a camera bag for Callixte’s Mamiya Universal Press, this is why I am bit quiet at the moment…

Cultural Insight

Since it’s been a week without news I decided to give you a brief update of what is going on in my life and what happened in the last seven days. Amit, a friend from the UK came to visit us and spent 5 days in Paris. I didn’t get much time to work or carry on my artistic study but nevertheless I have been inspired by an exhibition I saw at the MEP; Delpire & Cie.

I would strongly recommend to go and see it since it obviously covers a lot of the photography history and masters of it as well as children illustration. Unsurprisingly there were also a few pieces of Sarah Moon (her Cacharel work as well as some of her work based on children tales), I discovered her a while ago, but like for Francesca Woodman it stroke me differently this time…

Now Amit left this afternoon, so tomorrow I will get out the five books we have of her and start studying in more depth her work… I also got an excellent book from the Merle Moqueur (the art bookshop of the 104) about art and feminism that I intend to dig in the next few days… I don’t know where these searches will lead me, if anywhere, I will keep updating this space so it might turn into an artistic approach/process/search/quest diary.

Sensitivity

Funny how you can react to artists’ work differently according to various time/days in your own experience/life…

Today I rediscovered the work of Francesca Woodman and it truly moved me as much as it inspired me. I thought I’d share that with you in case it had the same effect on you…

A small insight of her work :

Pushing oneself

One of the reason I decided to go freelance  was to also pursue various personal projects that I left for years… I found it very hard to actually take the time to develop old ideas and beliefs I had. In all honesty I guess it was also brain moving and I couldn’t be bothered. I recently met a few people that talked to me about various artists that could interest me  or even shared various methodologies in order to help oneself developing a personal project. I guess the first step, and the catalyst in my situation was a project we did with a friend, really it was more a laugh and a brainstorm than anything else but I did enjoy the time we spent together trying to setup a series of pictures and I do feel I should be rigourous enough to do it on my own with a subject that matters to me. So this morning I spent a couple of hours researching the web, it was weird, I am picking up a subject I left 3 years ago. My approach is different, my feeling towards it have changed but nevertheless I am still very interested in identity… Anyway we will see where this will lead. I am feeling a bit down at the moment and this could be a rather good therapy for me. I am not sure you will get to see any images concerning this personal project for quite some time but until then here is a picture from the photoshoot we had last week with Antoine.
